What is the function of the pall on the chalice?

The chalice pall is part of the altar linens used during the celebration of Holy Mass. It consists of a square of silk or linen fabric. Its function is to cover the chalice during the celebration to prevent external elements from contaminating the Blood of Christ after the consecration. Two types of palls are used today: the rigid silk pall with insert and the starched linen pall so that it is rigid. Arte Ricami has both models available. The silk ball is sold individually while the linen pall is part of the mass linen set.

Our hand embroidered chalice palls

It is in the chalice pall that our embroiderers show all their skill. Indeed, the small and richly detailed embroidery is always a new challenge. Each embroidery is made exclusively by hand on the basis of designs that either belong to tradition or result from the reworking of classic liturgical motifs in a modern key. The pall is made of pure silk or silk blend.

Chalice pall with cross and other liturgical motives

Chalice palls are usually decorated with a cross, which can be more solemn and thus rich in detail and decoration, or simpler. In addition to this motif, we offer chalice palls with classic liturgical motifs, such as the lamb, the IHS symbol, the Marian symbol or the sacred heart of Jesus, thus creating palls to be used on special solemnities or to be given as gifts on special occasions.
Some of these patterns are also available in liturgical colors.
