Baptismal Bibs

Christening bibs: what is the meaning?

On the day of Baptism we become part of the great family of the Church. The liturgy of Baptism is full of signs and the white christening bib is one of them. Catechumens used to take off their robes on one side of the baptismal font, immerse themselves and come out on the other side where they were greeted with new white robes. The white garment symbolizes the new man, clean, unblemished, begotten of the Spirit.

Our christening bibs

It is not necessary for the child to be dressed in white during the ceremony. It is the bib that will be donated that makes the baby “glow” white. Arte Ricami’s batismal bibs reflect the model most commonly used in Italy, which is a white garment that can be worn comfortably from the head without the need to tuck in the sleeves. Our decorations recall the symbolism of the Holy Spirit and the cross on which Jesus conquers death. They are made of pure linen so they do not make the boy or girl sweat during the ceremony. They are one size fits all the way up to one year of age.
Along with the baptismal garment we also make towels for drying the head.

The baptismal bib is an important memory of this day that will remain for a lifetime.
