Cords
What is the rope worn by priests?
The cingulum is a cord that is used by the deacon, priest, bishop, and all those who participate in the religious celebration while wearing the surplice, such as lectors or members of fraternities. The cord tightens the surplice at the waist and, as reflected in the prayer while wearing it and in its very function of “tightening,” the cincture represents purity, chastity and self-control. In contrast to today, until the Middle Ages the cords were shaped more like a belt and were embellished with hand embroidery and stones.
Our priest cinctures
Our bouillon and rayon cords are available in the four liturgical colors, in gold and in ivory. Each model is distinguished by the final tassel, which can be simpler if made of the same material as the cord or more elaborate, for example, if it is embellished with gold bouillon fringe and tassels in the liturgical colors. Our cords are a perfect gift idea for priest, given the quality of the material used and the elegant packaging we send them to you.
If you are looking for a solemn cord, request us to send you photos of our gold cincture. In combination with the Vatican albs, we make cincture in the same fabric and embroidery.
